A screen shot has already posted showing the Writer View Options for an older version of OpenOffice on Mac showing Ruler, Horizontal Ruler and Vertical Ruler options. In Windows, it says 'To show the vertical ruler, choose Tools - Options - OpenOffice Writer - View, and then select Vertical ruler in the Ruler area'. After clicking 'Page Layout' in the Workbook Views section, which converts the spreadsheet to a print display, the Ruler option is activated.

In the default Normal view mode, this option is checked but grayed out. As with previous versions of Office, Office 2011 for Mac features margin-controlling options.Ĭlick the 'View' tab to see the Ruler check box in the Show group. Even normal documents that need to be printed need that gutter. In a book or magazine in which the sheets are bound, you need extra white space, or gutter, in addition to a margin.

You’d have a hard time reading a book if the type went from edge to edge on each page. By Most people are accustomed to seeing a perimeter style margin surrounding the text in documents, including Word documents.
